Slowly infused herbs
Harmony’s wild-foraged yarrow flowers, Douglas fir tips, nettle and horsetail, with locally grown organic comfrey leaf and marshmallow root, steep directly in the moisturizing oils for several weeks.
Guided by herbal practice, ethnobotany and modern research, we select the blend for the plants’ properties, suitability for oil extraction and natural aroma. Slow infusion draws their oil-soluble constituents and aromatic compounds into the oils before filtering.
Why sea buckthorn fruit oil?
Fruit-pulp oil is an unusually rich botanical source of palmitoleic acid—an omega-7 fatty acid also found in skin lipids. Its carotenoids are plant pigments with antioxidant properties that also give Harmony its warm golden-orange color.
Research into sea buckthorn oils includes their effects on skin cells, oxidative stress and moisture retention. Fruit-pulp oil has also been investigated in laboratory studies of skin-cell responses to UVB exposure. Its distinctive composition and this developing body of research inform its place alongside Harmony’s herbal infusion and richer moisturizing oils.

A distinctive fruit oil
Compositional studies show that sea buckthorn pulp oil contains substantially more palmitoleic acid than its seed oil. High concentrations of this omega-7 fatty acid are uncommon among plant oils. Fruit oil also contains carotenoids, including compounds studied for their antioxidant properties.
Research in skin cells
In a 2024 laboratory study, sea buckthorn pulp oil reduced collagen breakdown following UVB exposure in cultured human skin cells. The researchers also examined palmitoleic acid as a contributor to the observed effects.
Together, compositional and experimental research helps explain the interest in sea buckthorn fruit oil as a skincare ingredient.

How to use
How to use
After cleansing, mist your face and neck with a hydrosol or leave your skin slightly damp with water.
Apply the serum to damp skin, gently pressing it into your face and neck. Adjust the amount to your skin’s needs and preferred feel. Apply a little more to areas that feel dry or tight.
Use morning or evening. If using sunscreen, apply it after the serum.
Pair with a hydrosol: Hydrosols hydrate the skin, while the serum softens it and helps retain moisture. Apply the serum while your skin is still damp.

These organic oils form Harmony’s moisturizing foundation. Together, they soften roughness, help retain moisture and create its rich, comforting feel.
Organic jojoba oil
Jojoba is a liquid plant wax with a composition distinct from most botanical oils. It conditions the skin and helps maintain a soft, supple feel.
Organic argan oil
Argan contributes conditioning fatty acids and helps skin retain moisture, bringing richness and comfort to the blend.
Organic apricot kernel oil
Apricot kernel oil provides conditioning fatty acids and helps soften dry skin. It contributes to Harmony’s smooth, supple feel.
Organic rosehip oil
Rosehip contributes essential fatty acids, including linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids. We choose it to condition dry, rough-feeling skin and help leave it softer and smoother.
Organic castor oil
Castor oil is naturally thick and rich in ricinoleic acid. It gives Harmony body and contributes to the lasting, enveloping feel that distinguishes it from Glow.
Sea buckthorn fruit oil
Selected for its distinctive fatty-acid composition, including omega-7 palmitoleic acid, and naturally occurring carotenoids with antioxidant properties.

Sourcing & making
We forage the wild botanicals ourselves and source the organically grown herbs locally.
Infusion, filtering, blending and bottling take place in small batches at our Vashon Island studio. Organic virgin CO₂-extracted sea buckthorn fruit oil and Vitamin E are blended into the filtered oil before bottling.
Harmony is a water-free facial oil with no added fragrance, essential oils, colorants or preservatives.
